ADM Operations is seeking an experienced Director, Global Operational Technology, supporting our global process manufacturing assets. The ideal location of this role is in Decatur, IL, but will consider other locations.

The Director, Global Operational Technology serves as a technology partner, leading support, system improvements, and modernization of Operational Technologies and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) systems across the globe. We are seeking a candidate that has an expert level of understanding of OT, MOM systems, Industrial Automation systems, and interdependencies with other disciplines. You should have strong understanding of project execution methodologies and be comfortable working with a global team. In this role, you will be accountable for designing the digital transformation strategy for OT and driving in its execution, leading large and complex projects globally within ADM with a direct impact on our business strategy.

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Develop & Execute Operational Technology (OT) Strategies: formulate and implement OT strategies, policies, and procedures to align OT solutions with business requirements and IT/GT objectives based on collaborative discussions with senior leadership and key stakeholders

  • Act as a technical resource to IT/GT, process & project engineering teams, and local operations teams to support design, selection and implementation of new OT investments and modifications needed to support existing applications, translating these technical demands into an architectural blueprint.

  • Provide leadership to the OT teams, ensuring they are well-trained and equipped to perform their roles. Working to minimize gaps in performance and effectiveness through continuous improvement and cross training, within the OT team itself, and with collaborative partners.

  • Own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for respective area(s) of expertise.

  • Oversee the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of industrial control systems and other IT/GT and OT infrastructure components

  • Identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing processes, increasing project efficiencies, and manage plant risk by integrating and optimizing OT systems

  • Collaborate with IT/GT to secure process automation systems, ensure compatibility with business automation and ERP systems, and fully leverage available synergies

  • Accountable for active management of risks associated with OT infrastructure including security, compliance, and operational risk.

  • Analyze data from OT systems to pinpoint bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement

  • Ensure adherence and compliance with relevant IT/GT regulations and standards

  • Manage OT budgets, ensuring expenditures align with business objectives and deliver value to the company

  • Collaborate with vendors, system integrators, and internal teams to optimize the performance and reliability of OT systems

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred

  • A minimum of 12+ years of increasingly senior roles working in OT, process automation, Engineering, or manufacturing operations

  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership role

  • Excellent interpersonal and people skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to prioritize and display a high level of adaptability/flexibility while handling job responsibilities

  • In-depth experience in at least two to three of the following processes and the technologies that support them:

  • Knowledge of OT technologies, such as SCADA, process control systems, MES, industrial networks, and related protocols (e.g., OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP)

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation, data analytics, and optimization techniques

  • Resilient and redundant server and network design with emphasis on uptime metrics and standardization.

  • Broad knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, particularly as they apply to OT systems

  • Knowledge in programming languages commonly used in OT environments (e.g., PLC programming, ladder logic, HMI/SCADA scripting, PL/SQL, T-SQL, OOP)

  • Knowledge of automation and robotic tools: proven experience in intelligent process automation planning and development

  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed

  • Proven experience developing business cases and managing departmental budgets

  • Demonstrated ability to drive change, influence multiple stakeholders, and comfortable working on the factory floor

  • Financial acumen and ability to effectively manage and control costs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Packaging, Warehouse Management, and/or Robotics experience

  • Knowledge of one or more process control platforms (Rockwell, Novatech, Siemens, DeltaV, Honeywell)

  • Continuous and batch process automation experience or MES systems

  • Cybersecurity, OT networking, and system integration experience

  • Continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing environment using Toyota Production System, Danaher Business System, or other lean methodology
