Vitamin E Process Safety Specialist- Decatur, IL

This is an exempt level role.

Position Summary:

A Vitamin E Process Safety Specialist will be to work with the Process Safety Engineer and the greater Total Process Safety team to progress our systems to not just to meet, but to exceed, corporate and local compliance standards. The Specialist will work with both hourly and salary collegues in various areas of the operations, including production, engineering, and mantinance to support the facilities goals of a safe, comliant and efficient process. In this role the specialist will work both in the field and in the office to create, update, and validate the documentation and procedures needed for Total Process Safety activities, including P&IDs, Control Narratives, Asset Criticality and Mechanical Integrity activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Total Process Safety and Process Safety Management related tasks such as Mechanical Integrity, Asset Criticality, and Preventative Maintinace best practices Critical Safety Device compliance.

  • Monitor, evaluate and report Process Safety performance at the facility and advise management on further improvements, working collaboratively with the Health & Safety Center of Expertise in the North American region to align on PSM Programs and Goals.

  • Conduct and participate in Process Safety Compliance Audits and assessments

  • Organize and maintain technical process safety documentation.

  • Assist with process incident investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.

  • Leads and facilitate local Process Safety Risk Assessments and related action plans.  

  • Lead and facilitate local Process Safety incident investigations; Prepare and share Safety Alerts and Best Practices

  • Lead Total Process Safety and Process Safety Management related tasks such as Mechanical Integrity, Asset Criticality, and Preventative Maintinace best practices.

  • Develop and update P&IDs, Control Narratives, and other documentation needed to safely operate the Vitamin E plant.

  • Recommendations for improvements to company facilities, equipment, and safety programs

  • Project design, development and management that are specific to the operations

  • Provide feedback, mentorship and support to operators and engineers to achieve short term and long-term department performance through use of KPI’s, continuous improvement, and Performance Excellence concepts

Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years of plant operations experience

  • Experience in process safety management areas, or total process safety is helpful.

  • Strong Dedication to Safety

  • Proven leadership

  • Self motivation and drive

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Good written and verbal commutation skills

  • Ability to lead personnel and work closely with external stakeholders

  • Ability to look beyond the task at hand, to anticipate challenges and develop options to overcome them

  • The scope of the position may have exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.

  • Inside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

  • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.

  • Outside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.

  • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.

  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection when working in the field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to walk 1-3 hours per day

  • Must be able to sit 4-8 hours per day

  • Must e able to climb stairs and ladders on an occasional basis
