Position Summary:

The QFS Manager will be responsible for identifying & communicating food safety & quality issues to the quality and management team. This individual will also assist in the implementation of corrective & preventative actions as needed. This role will play vital role in ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate audit requirements. In addition, this position will be directly involved in the ongoing development, implementation & improvement of the local Quality Management System. It is the expectation that the QFS Manager will actively participate in continuous improvement objectives in order to meet or exceed customer requirements & business goals.

  • Assist in monitoring the results of raw material, in-process product, & finished product testing for compliance with specifications. Notify management team of deviations & help to make ship/no ship decisions.

  • Daily monitoring of the day-to-day facility processing operations to ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including equipment inspection & participation in pre-operational start-up procedures

  • Identify potential sources of contamination within each product flow & assist in foreign material investigations. Assess product quality risk as needed in determination of final product disposition

  • Create & implement internal monitoring audits. Notify the General Manager & production team of non-conformances & assist in implementing corrective actions.

  • Assist in developing, implementing & validating science based HACCP plans, associated prerequisite programs, & SOPs for each process area within the facility.

  • Maintain audit-ready status of plant & prepare for 3rd party & customer audits

  • Lead role in conduct internal food safety, GMP audits, & SOP audits

  • Track & trend data to ensure new trends are not developing. Assist in developing & implementing a plan of action to improve areas identified for improvement

  • Development & implementation of training programs to instruct employees to monitor & document HACCP, SOP, & other required functions

  • Maintain daily records of HACCP, SOP & regulatory paperwork, reviewing to assure the production of safe & wholesome food products

  • Conduct food safety meetings

  • Assess and analyze capability of plant to meet and ensure customer specifications are met

  • Review, revise as necessary standards and quality methods to be utilized

  • Identify quality-related training needs and train employees

  • Engage staff from all disciplines to agree on comprehensive quality procedures

  • Liaison with customers, auditors, state and federal agencies

  • Knowledge of Global Food Safety

  • Oversight of inventory

  • Manage daily HRCI reconciliation

  • Investigate manufacturing errors and complete proper reports including, yield instigations, CAPA reports

  • Oversight of sample retains, product testing

  • Develop and maintain site specific work instructions

  • Oversee Pest Control Program

  • Complaint investigations

  • RCA

  • CAPA

  • Coordinate activities with site Quality Technician

  • Liaison to Regional QA Team

  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

  • BS/BA Biology, Food Science, Animal Science or related field

  • Analytical and data management skills

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility in task management

  • Previous supervision of QC/QA department in the food processing industry required

  • Solid understanding of HACCP & Quality Management Systems through HACCP certification and/or inspection & auditing certification

  • Effective written & verbal communication skills to all levels & functions of employees

  • Ability to communicate in English

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to prioritize & set goals

Preferred:

  • Previous work with BRC, AIB, or other Food Safety Regulatory organizations

  • Knowledge of GFSI standards

  • Understanding of root cause analysis

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Commercial Feed
