This is a full-time, exempt position.

Position Summary:

The Hutchinson, KS Protein manufacturing facility is seeking a Process Engineer with the skills to improve and optimize processes utilizing historical data and standardized continuous improvement methods. The Process Engineer will utilize engineering skills to collaborate with all functional areas including operations, maintenance, EHS (Environmental Health & Safety), and QFS (Quality & Food Safety) to drive improvements through project execution from scope development to start-up. This position will work closely with Division Engineers, and Performance Excellence colleagues.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversight of specific processes that includes capital projects.

  • This may include project management requiring project scope development, approval and funding authorization, equipment specification and purchasing, equipment installation, budget tracking, colleague training, contractor management, and project commissioning.

  • Provide initial required training for contractors and oversee the SWP (Safe Work Permit) while contractors are on site.

  • Utilize the MOC (Management of Change) process where required.

  • Lead or participate in trouble shooting initiatives to provide corrective actions that work to meet Plant KPI goals in the areas of safety, quality, and operations.

  • Identify improvement opportunities and lead continuous improvement initiatives in support of plant foals for safety, quality, cost, yield, and reliability.

  • As a member of the plant leadership team be a champion and spokesperson for plant safety, quality, and operations initiatives.

  • Manage downtime data collection and enter it in the appropriate location and utilize it to prioritize improvement initiatives.

  • Work with colleagues to develop/update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions in compliance with EHS and QFS standards. Train colleagues after a SOP approval.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering.

  • 1 + years of food plant manufacturing experience helpful.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.

  • An understanding of Quality and Food Safety.

  • Good critical thinking skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to look beyond the task at hand, anticipate challenges, and develop options to overcome them.

  • Ability to collaborate and utilize all plant functions and resources to implement solutions.

  • Ability to manage contractors performing project work on site.

  • Ability to work in a hot, cold, or dusty environment that may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other elevated surfaces.
